As a kid, I was always drawn to trees, leaves, and florals. I was probably the only kid on the block who had a bedroom decorated with silver and gold leaf accessories rather than Disney princesses or super heroes. I was raised among artists and whenever I was told to do a “project,” I created something simple with nature-inspired elements. But until adulthood, this was an aesthetic preference and nothing more.
I grew up and worked hard. I got into Cornell, where I met my husband and earned a bachelor’s degree. After graduating and dating for six years, we got married on the Cornell campus and had our reception in a gorgeous barn on the edge of Ithaca.
Our wedding was beautiful but we didn’t have a huge budget. One way we decided to save money was to use artificial flowers instead of real ones. I planned to make the bouquets and centerpieces myself. Though some people raised eyebrows at this plan, the florals turned out stunning. And most important of all, I had a BLAST making them.
We moved to NYC after college and life carried on. Recently I had a gift to give to a friend and no bow or wrapping paper around. I did happen to have a leftover boutonniere though, so I took it apart and arranged the tiny flowers on top of the gift box. It was so beautiful, and I realized right away that it made for a way more special-looking present than a cheap plastic bow. I decided to buy materials and began making floral gift toppers.
I realized almost immediately that these were awful for the environment - they’re mostly made of cloth and plastic - and I began to wonder if there was a way to make them reusable. The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants immediately came to mind. These bows could be like those pants: they could travel from friend to friend, back and forth between partners, or amongst a family, picking up love and some special sense of magic and connection along the way. I was totally sold on the idea, and I hope you are too!
Now my shop has grown to include floral gift wrap, decorations, and gifts. I can make commissioned floral arrangements as well. Please reach out with any questions!
